Harlequin Ladybird

Harlequin Ladybird - Insects
A multicoloured Harlequin or Asian ladybird (Harmonia axyridis). The pattern of this ladybird is very variable, from yellow-orange to black, with the number of spots varying between 0 and 22. It arrived in the UK in 2004 as the Harlequin ladybird, and is a threat to the native ladybirds as it outcompetes them for food and eats their larvae - a double whammy.
Elsewhere in the world it is known as the Asian lady beetle, Japanese ladybug and pumpkin ladybird.
