The pattern of this ladybird is very variable, from yellow-orange to black, with the number of spots varying between 0 and 22. It arrived in the UK in 2004 as the Harlequin ladybird, and is a threat to the native ladybirds as it outcompetes them for food and eats their larvae - a double whammy.
Elsewhere in the world it is known as the Asian lady beetle, Japanese ladybug and pumpkin ladybird.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This fly has been infected by a fungus - the white growth. Eventually the fungus will overpower the insect and kill it. Before the fly dies, it will find its way to a high point. After death, the fungal spores are dispersed by the wind and go on to infect another host.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This inn at the top of the Kirkstone Pass in Cumbria is England’s highest pub at 1491 feet above sea level. Situated on the road between Ullswater and Windermere at the junction with the road leading down to Ambleside, it has been in existence since 1496. A welcoming sight after a walk in the bleak but beautiful landscape, it’s even more inviting as the night or the weather closes in.</image:caption>
